COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT SUPERVISOR

Location: Annandale, VA (with regional responsibilities across Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.)
Status: Full-time, Mid-level
Reports to: Executive Director, in collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer

Position Overview

Just Neighbors seeks a passionate and experienced Community Development Supervisor to expand the organization’s fundraising, outreach, and communications capacity, enabling us to serve more immigrant and refugee families across Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.

The primary responsibility of this mid-level role is to ensure that all fundraising and development activities—outlined in the strategic plan and guided by the Board Development Committee—are fully, accurately, and effectively implemented. Working closely with the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer, the Community Development Supervisor manages development staff across three jurisdictions and performs in-person duties at the Annandale office.

Who We Are

Just Neighbors’ mission is to provide high-quality immigration legal services to low-income immigrants, asylees, and refugees in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, and to build community among clients, staff, volunteers, and the broader public through education, advocacy, and volunteerism.

Founded in 1996, Just Neighbors is a community-based 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in Annandale, VA. For nearly 30 years, we have provided immigration legal services to thousands of immigrants and refugees of all faiths and nationalities. Our work is carried out by a dedicated staff of twenty-two and more than 200 volunteers. In addition to direct legal services, we educate community leaders, organizations, and residents through presentations on immigration law and policy.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Team Leadership

  • Supervise regional development associates across NOVA, Maryland, and Rural programs, as well as the Office Manager, who are responsible for the recruitment, scheduling, supervision, and stewarding of volunteers in each region.
  • Assign and direct the associates to assist with fundraising, development, communications, and outreach activities

Fundraising & Development

  • Manage and implement individual donor campaigns, biannual direct mail appeals, and online giving days
  • Steward current and first-time donors to promote renewal and long-term engagement
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit individual donors and sponsors for unrestricted and programmatic support
  • Implement recognition activities and events for volunteers and major supporters
  • Research and pursue new donor prospects
  • Fully utilize Neon CRM, including donation entry, reporting, analytics, weekly job-flow functions, and database accuracy
  • Oversee donor acknowledgment, appreciation, and recordkeeping
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors’ Development Committee to plan and execute fundraising events
  • Maintain relationships with fundraising partners (e.g., SPUR Local, ACT of Alexandria, Community Foundations)
  • Attend fundraising trainings, coalitions, and professional development opportunities
  • Be available for occasional evenings or weekends and travel throughout VA, MD, and D.C. for fundraising activities

Communications & Outreach

  • Develop and manage Just Neighbors’ comprehensive communications plan across print, digital, and in-person platforms
  • Supervise staff responsible for digital communications, including e-newsletters, social media (Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, YouTube), and website content
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure consistent, mission-aligned messaging

Other Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with nonprofit fundraising strategies and implementation
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, ethics, and current trends
  • Proven success with donor cultivation, stewardship, prospecting, and tracking
  • Experience managing both large- and small-scale fundraising events and direct mail/email appeals
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and community-centered culture of Just Neighbors

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $58,000–$71,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications
Compensation is determined by established, non-negotiable salary bands and objective criteria
