Nancy Gonzalez began volunteering with Just Neighbors in December 2019. She heard about Just Neighbors through the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia and thought volunteering would be a great way to practice her professional English skills.

Originally from Venezuela, Nancy came to the United States in 2016 and has been enthusiastically learning English since then. Besides volunteering at Just Neighbors, Nancy takes four English classes every week! She is eager to improve her English so that she can find an administrative position here in Virginia. Nancy was an Executive Assistant in a company in Venezuela and now brings her skills and talents to Just Neighbors.

Besides doing intakes and assisting clients, Nancy has become the expert on creating certificate templates. Since translated birth certificates are needed for every immigration application and every country has different birth, marriage, and death certificates, it can be quite a challenge to not only translate these documents but also to format them to resemble the original document. Nancy says she really enjoys the work and likes feeling useful.
