Women’s Support Group Meets Wednesdays at Just Neighbors

In addition to our legal services, Just Neighbors also runs a support group for immigrant women in our community. Every Wednesday afternoon at 1pm, a small group of women ranging in age from 16 to 70, gathers at the Just Neighbors office to talk. For many of them, this is the only opportunity to share their concerns about their physical and mental health, families, and relationships.

“Immigrants face many barriers when they try to access resources that would improve their lives,” says Amanda Riley, a Just Neighbors intern pursuing her master’s degree in social work at George Mason University, who co-facilitates the group. “When these women begin to know and trust one another, they often find that they can come up with solutions to problems themselves. And sometimes, they just need to talk.”

Riley co-facilitates the group with Sumita Changela, a counselor from The Women’s Center in Vienna.

If you’re interested in participating, or know someone else who may want to join the group, contact Riley at 703-979-1240 or amanda@justneighbors.org.
